ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – U.S. President Donald Trump said on Monday that diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict between Iran and Israel could be underway shortly after his departure from the G7 summit in Canada, according to a report by CNN.
Speaking to reporters at the summit, Trump stated, “I think Iran basically is at the negotiating table where they want to make a deal, and as soon as I leave here, we’re going to be doing something.” He did not elaborate further on the nature of the potential diplomatic action.
The Middle East conflict has reportedly been a major topic of discussion among world leaders at the summit. Trump emphasized that his priority remains preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons. “I want to see no nuclear weapon in Iran, and we’re well on our way to making sure that happens,” he said.
When asked whether Israel could counter Iran’s nuclear threat independently, Trump replied, “It’s irrelevant. Something’s going to happen.”
Earlier in the day, Trump commented that Iran “would like to talk,” but criticized the timing of their willingness to engage in negotiations. He indicated that Iran should have engaged in serious negotiations before Israel began its most recent strikes, according to CNN’s Kevin Liptak.
The remarks come as tensions between Iran and Israel have reached a critical point, prompting renewed international focus on potential diplomatic solutions.
