ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — Iraqi National Security Adviser Qasim al-Araji on Thursday voiced serious concern over the potential spread of radioactive materials as a result of the ongoing military escalation between Israel and the Islamic Republic of Iran. He called for urgent international cooperation to prevent a wider humanitarian and environmental crisis, according to the Iraqi News Agency (INA).

Al-Araji said, “In light of the dangerous military escalation, which includes strikes on nuclear and military facilities, Iraq expresses deep concern over the risks posed by the potential release of radioactive materials in the region.”

He warned that the continuation of the conflict could have grave consequences. “This war threatens not only the security of neighboring countries but also risks triggering health and environmental disasters on a global level,” he stated.

Reaffirming Iraq’s commitment to regional stability, al-Araji stressed that Baghdad is ready to work with all parties to de-escalate tensions. “The Iraqi government stands prepared to cooperate with international actors to contain the crisis, shield civilians from the horrors of war, and prevent a wider regional conflict.”

He concluded with a strong appeal to the international community, urging swift and responsible action. “We once again issue this warning with a profound sense of responsibility: the continuation of this conflict could drag the region into an unforeseeable catastrophe.”
