'A Wolf Pretending to Be a Diplomat': Israel’s Danon Slams Iran’s UN Envoy
At the UN, Israel’s envoy Danon accused Iran of war crimes, terrorism, and nuclear aggression, citing a missile strike on an Israeli hospital. Defending Israel’s Operation Rising Lion, he warned the world of Iran’s global threat and vowed to dismantle its nuclear capabilities.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, delivered a blistering address at the UN Security Council on Friday, condemning the Islamic Republic of Iran for its alleged involvement in terrorism, war crimes, and nuclear brinkmanship. The speech came during an emergency session convened to address the escalating Israel-Iran crisis and nuclear tensions across the region.
Danon began by expressing appreciation for the opening remarks from Secretary-General António Guterres, Under-Secretary Rosemary DiCarlo, and IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi. However, he swiftly shifted focus to Iran’s envoy, Ambassador Amir Saeed Iravani, accusing him and the Iranian regime of exploiting the UN platform.
“Mister Iravani, how dare you, how dare you write five letters in the last week? Come before this council, demand a session, and ask the international community for sympathy,” Danon exclaimed. “How dare you ask the international community to protect you from the consequences of your own genocidal agenda?”
Danon recited statements from Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, including his 2024 declaration that “the divine promise to eliminate the Zionist entity will be fulfilled,” and a 2025 speech calling Israel a “cancerous tumor [that] should certainly be eradicated.”
He accused the Iranian regime of attempting to assassinate Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and U.S. President Donald Trump, and of orchestrating global attacks on Jewish communities. “You are a wolf pretending to be a diplomat,” Danon charged. “We are done pretending otherwise.”
Strike on Soroka Medical Center
Danon drew international attention to what he called a war crime: Iran’s recent ballistic missile strike on the Soroka Medical Center in Beersheba.
“It was struck by a precision-guided missile fired by the Islamic Republic of Iran,” Danon stated. “There were no military bases around. No mistakes. This was a deliberate act.”
The hospital, serving over a million people of all backgrounds in Southern Israel, was portrayed as a civilian target deliberately chosen.
“This was not a misfire. This was not a mistake,” Danon emphasized. “It is a blatant violation of international law, a war crime, and a calculated attempt to murder the most vulnerable.”
He went on to say, “Today, it was Beersheba. Tomorrow, it could be Brussels. Soon, it could be Boston.”
Expanding Missile Capabilities and Global Threat
Danon expressed grave concern about Iran’s advancing ballistic missile technology.
He claimed that Iran is developing missiles capable of reaching beyond 4,000 kilometers, potentially threatening all major European capitals and even the U.S. East Coast.
He questioned whether the international community could guarantee global security against a regime “which chants death to America, death to England, death to Israel.”
According to Danon, Iran has already enriched uranium to near weapons-grade levels, constructed fortified underground facilities, and misled the IAEA.
“There must finally be an acknowledgment that there is no greater threat to international peace and security than a nuclear Iran,” Danon said. “Iran is not just building the capability. It is using it.”
Global Terror Network and Cluster Munitions
The Israeli envoy detailed Iran’s global network of proxies and militant groups.
He stated that Iran has exported drones that have killed civilians, and has armed Hezbollah, Hamas, the Houthis, Shiite militias in Iraq, and extremist networks in Africa, Latin America, and Europe.
He further disclosed that just one day prior, Iran had launched a ballistic missile carrying cluster munitions into central Israel.
“Iran's intentions could not be clearer. Bloody murder,” he said. “Twenty-nine civilians have been killed and almost 900 wounded by Iranian missiles.”
Defense of Operation Rising Lion
Danon described Israel’s military response, dubbed Operation Rising Lion, as a lawful and necessary preemptive action to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.
“Israel acted as a last resort,” he said. “This was the final window of opportunity, and it came only after diplomacy had been exhausted.”
“We are doing what this council should have done long ago,” he asserted. “We are acting where the international community hesitated.”
He defended Israel’s targeting strategy, stressing adherence to international law, the principle of proportionality, and efforts to avoid civilian casualties.
“This is the difference between a democracy acting in defense of its people and a brutal regime targeting civilians,” Danon noted.
A Warning to the World
Concluding his address, Danon echoed remarks from German Chancellor Mertz, who said, “Israel is doing the world’s dirty work.”
“We are the first target, but we will not be the last,” Danon warned. “Iran doesn't just want to destroy Israel. It wants to remake the world order, one missile, one terror proxy, one destroyed hospital at a time.”
“We will not stop. Not until Iran's nuclear threat is dismantled. Not until its war machine is disarmed. Not until our people and yours are safe,” he concluded. “This is not just Israel’s fight. It is the world’s fight. And if no one else will fight it, we will.”
