ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Iranian authorities have confirmed that the Fordow nuclear facility in Qom Province was struck by an airstrike in the early hours of Sunday, marking a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict with Israel. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has declared that "now the war has begun," signaling a turning point in the hostilities.
Morteza Heidari, spokesperson for the Qom Province Crisis Management Center, said air defense systems in the region were activated in response to the incoming threat. He confirmed that several sections of the Fordow nuclear facility were targeted and bombed following the identification of aerial threats.
IRGC: 'The War Has Now Begun'
Shortly after the attack, the IRGC published a brief statement on its official X account, writing: “Now the war has begun for us.” The message underscores the gravity of the attack on one of Iran’s most sensitive nuclear sites and suggests that Tehran now considers itself fully engaged in open warfare.
The bombing of Fordow follows a wave of Israeli airstrikes across Iran’s southwestern and central regions, part of what officials in Tel Aviv have described as a broader campaign to dismantle Iran’s nuclear capabilities.
Iranian officials have not yet disclosed casualty figures or the full extent of the damage to the nuclear facility. However, the confirmation of a direct strike on Fordow, a heavily fortified and symbolically significant site, marks a dramatic shift in the strategic landscape of the conflict.
