ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – In an escalation of hostilities, Iranian forces launched missiles toward Israel late Sunday, prompting Israel to retaliate with a wave of airstrikes on multiple Iranian cities including the capital Tehran, and other key locations in the country’s west.

According to statements issued on Telegram by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Israeli warplanes targeted the Parachin region in southeastern Tehran, but the country’s air defense systems reportedly intercepted the strikes.

The IRGC said that 20 Israeli fighter jets bombed more than 30 strategic sites across Tehran, Kermanshah, and Hamadan, hitting missile depots, launch platforms, radar systems, and satellite surveillance stations. Explosions were heard throughout the Iranian capital as air defenses engaged the incoming aircraft.

Israel Hits Back After Missile Launched Toward Tel Aviv

As the confrontation intensified, Israeli military spokespersons confirmed that several missiles had been fired from Iran toward Israel, triggering air raid sirens across major cities. Israel's air defense systems intercepted many of the projectiles mid-air, though one missile reached the skies above Tel Aviv before being neutralized.

Iran claimed responsibility for the missile salvos, saying they had reached targets in central Israel. However, the Israeli military confirmed that only one missile reached Tel Aviv’s airspace and was intercepted before causing damage.

Reports of Civilian and Infrastructure Casualties in Tehran

In an earlier statement, Mohammad Sadegh Mo'tamedian, Tehran’s provincial governor, disclosed that Israel had conducted over 200 strikes across the capital in the past ten days, killing 200 people and wounding 877. He added that the bombardments targeted essential civilian infrastructure, including water, electricity, and gas distribution networks, as well as media and health facilities.

Conflicting Claims Over Missile Origin

While Iranian state sources insisted that the missile launched toward Israel was from Iranian territory, Iran’s Fars News Agency later reported that the projectile may have originated from Yemen. The confusion comes amid wider regional turmoil and involvement of Iranian-aligned militias in neighboring countries.

A New Phase of Hostilities Unfolds

This latest exchange marks a new and dangerous phase in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran. The Iranian missile strike occurred in the early hours of Monday, prompting Israel to immediately launch a multi-city air campaign using over 20 warplanes. The Israeli military claims that all of the targets were strategic military facilities and denies striking civilian areas.
