ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - Iraq’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussein held a series of urgent diplomatic consultations with counterparts from several Arab and European countries on Monday, as regional tensions continue to rise following intensified conflict in the Middle East.

According to an official statement from the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Minister Hussein received phone calls from his counterparts in Egypt, Jordan, Bulgaria, and Oman to discuss the rapidly deteriorating situation in the region and the threat it poses to both regional and international stability.

The discussions centered on "the rapidly evolving developments in the region and the dangerous escalation threatening its security and stability," the statement noted. Hussein and his counterparts emphasized the need for "supporting regional and international efforts to de-escalate tensions and prevent further deterioration."

In addition to these talks, Minister Hussein also spoke with Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of the State of Qatar. The conversation addressed the recent attack targeting Qatar. Hussein conveyed Iraq’s solidarity with the Qatari leadership and people, expressing reassurance about the situation there. He stressed the importance of prioritizing diplomatic dialogue and avoiding any further escalation that could widen the scope of conflict.

The Ministry emphasized Iraq’s commitment to acting as a constructive regional player by encouraging coordination among Arab and international partners to help defuse the crisis through political and diplomatic means.

This outreach follows Iraq’s recent initiative in convening an emergency session of Arab foreign ministers in Istanbul, where Hussein warned of the grave risks of continued escalation, including the potential closure of the Strait of Hormuz, which could disrupt global oil markets.

As diplomatic channels remain active, Baghdad continues to urge all parties to adopt restraint and pursue peaceful resolutions in a volatile and deeply polarized regional landscape.
