ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – A wave of sandstorms swept across Erbil province and other parts of the Kurdistan Region on Monday evening, significantly reducing visibility and affecting daily life in some areas.

Mohammed Kamal, a meteorological expert, told Kurdistan24 that the sandstorm is expected to last until late Monday night, with weather conditions forecast to return to normal by Tuesday morning.

Kamal also noted a significant drop in temperatures is on the horizon. “The temperature will drop by seven to eight degrees Celsius starting Tuesday,” he said.

Meteorologists have recently warned that multiple waves of sandstorms are likely to hit the region throughout the year, driven by changing climate patterns and increasing desertification in Iraq and neighboring countries.

Residents are advised to limit outdoor activity during the storms, especially those with respiratory conditions.
