ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) parliamentary bloc on late Tuesday night strongly condemned what it described as a “criminal act” after two drones targeted the headquarters of Peshmerga’s Unit 70 Forces in the Tasluja area of Sulaimani Province.

In an official statement, the bloc denounced the drone strike as a blatant violation of the sovereignty of both Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, warning that such attacks pose a serious threat to regional stability and the safety of civilian lives.

“This is a continuation of a pattern of aggression, following the recent attack on Kirkuk and now targeting Sulaimani,” the statement read, calling the incidents “dangerous escalations.”

The PUK bloc called on Iraq’s Prime Minister to urgently form an investigative committee to identify the source of the drones and the party responsible for launching them. The group also stressed the need to protect the lives and property of unarmed civilians and prevent any further actions that could undermine the country’s security and peaceful coexistence.

The statement comes amid rising concerns over the growing frequency of drone and missile attacks across disputed and border regions in northern Iraq, some of which have been linked to regional tensions involving foreign actors.

On Tuesday, a loud explosion followed by a fire was reported in the Tasluja neighborhood on the outskirts of Sulaimani, after two drones crashed near a military facility, according to Kurdistan24. The blast, heard across the area, triggered a swift response from local security forces. Kurdistan24 reporter Aram Bakhtiar confirmed that the incident occurred near the Peshmerga’s 70th Unit headquarters.

A reliable security source told Kurdistan24 that the drones may have been intercepted by a U.S. radar defense system operating at the command post. One drone reportedly crashed between the Tasluja neighborhood and the military site. Salam Abdulkhaliq, head of Sulaimani’s Asayish, said investigation teams were immediately dispatched to the scene. No casualties were reported, and authorities have yet to release an official statement on the origin or intent of the drones. Investigations are ongoing.
