ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - Kurdistan24 has called on the Internal Security Forces (Asayish) in northeastern Syria (Rojava) to immediately release its employee, Raman Abdulsalam Hiso, who was detained earlier this week while visiting family in the region.
In an official statement, Kurdistan24 Company for Media and Research expressed deep concern over the arrest of Hiso, emphasizing that he had traveled to northeastern Syria with his six-year-old son, Miral, to spend the summer holidays with relatives.
"On July 1, our employee Raman Abdulsalam Hiso and his son traveled to northeastern Syria. Upon arrival at the Semalka Border Crossing, he was held for several hours by security forces before being released. He was then told to report to the General Security office in Amuda the next day at 10 a.m., where he was arrested," the statement read.
Hiso, originally from Amuda, relocated to the Kurdistan Region in 2014 and has been working with Kurdistan24 for the past five years.
Kurdistan24 urged the Internal Security Forces and relevant authorities to immediately release Hiso and provide clarity regarding the reasons behind his detention.
The organization reaffirmed its commitment to press freedom and called on all actors in the region to respect the rights of media professionals.
