ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Iranian state media reported Monday that the death toll in Iran following the 12-day war with Israel has risen to at least 1,060.
"Regarding the martyrs, as of tonight, we have buried 1,060 loved ones across the country," said Saeed Ohadi, head of the Foundation of Martyrs and Veterans Affairs, in an interview with state TV.
An armed conflict between Iran and Israel erupted on June 13 when Israel launched surprise attacks on key military and nuclear facilities in Iran. In the initial hours of the war, Israeli air and ground forces targeted and assassinated several of Iran's prominent military leaders, nuclear scientists, and politicians, while also damaging or destroying Iran's air defenses along with various military and nuclear facilities.
In retaliation, Iran launched waves of missile and drone strikes against Israeli cities and military sites, firing over 550 ballistic missiles and more than 1,000 explosive drones throughout the conflict.
During the 12-day war, Iranian missile attacks resulted in the deaths of 28 people in Israel.
