ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — The Barzani Headquarters issued a public statement on Saturday announcing that the Kurdistan Region has decided to grant the federal government in Baghdad one final opportunity to resolve the ongoing disputes over salaries, budget allocations, and financial entitlements.

The announcement followed a meeting of the Kurdistan Democratic Party’s (KDP) Politburo, convened on Saturday to determine the region’s position regarding the protracted financial impasse with the Iraqi federal government. However, the statement revealed that Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, who returned to Kurdistan on the same day after a series of talks in Baghdad, informed the KDP leadership that Iraqi political figures and federal government officials have pledged to resolve the issue within the coming days.

“Based on their requests and promises, and to continue the dialogue in a calm atmosphere and with due consideration for the situation and the public interest, we decided to grant the federal Iraqi government in Baghdad a final opportunity to find a solution that would ensure a settlement to this problem,” the statement said. It further emphasized the Kurdistan Region’s continued belief in addressing disagreements through mutual understanding and dialogue, as long as such a path remains open.

The statement, dated July 12, 2025, was issued from the Barzani Headquarters and comes amid heightened tensions between Erbil and Baghdad over delayed salary payments to public employees in the Kurdistan Region. The issue has triggered public unrest and strained relations between the two governments, prompting calls for immediate resolution.
