ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Monday described Israel as a “project of hegemonic powers” aimed at weakening, occupying, and plundering the wealth of nations in the region, according to the state-run Iranian Labor News Agency (ILNA).

Speaking during a meeting in Tehran with Iraqi Interior Minister Abdul Amir al-Shammari, Pezeshkian called for unity among regional states in the face of what he termed a common threat. “We must stand united against this shared enemy [Israel], support one another, and strictly avoid division and discord,” he said.

Pezeshkian reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to solidarity with neighboring and Islamic countries. “We consider the government and people of Iraq, as well as all other Islamic nations, our brothers,” he said. “We will continue to work to strengthen unity, cohesion, and fraternity within the Islamic Ummah.”

The Iranian president also expressed Tehran’s readiness to expand bilateral cooperation with Iraq across all fields.

According to Iran's IRGC-affiliated Tasnim News Agency, "the Iraqi minister, for his part, conveyed warm greetings from Prime Minister of Iraq Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani to President Pezeshkian and congratulated the resistance of the Iranian people against the Zionist enemy".

During the meeting, Minister al-Shammari conveyed greetings from Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani and outlined his government’s efforts to facilitate the upcoming Arbaeen pilgrimage, which annually draws millions of Shiite pilgrims from across the region to Iraq’s holy cities.
