ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The European Council announced on Tuesday that it has imposed sanctions on eight individuals and one entity under the EU Global Human Rights Sanctions Regime for their involvement in serious human rights violations carried out on behalf of the Iranian state.

The targeted individuals and the entity are accused of engaging in acts of extrajudicial killings, arbitrary executions, and enforced disappearances of individuals critical of the Islamic Republic of Iran, particularly outside the country.

Among those listed is the Zindashti Network, a group linked to Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS). According to the Council, the network has been responsible for numerous acts of transnational repression, including the assassination of Iranian dissidents abroad.

The Council also sanctioned Mohammed Ansari, the leader of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Quds Force Unit 840, for allegedly ordering the assassination of journalists who had been critical of the Iranian regime. Additionally, Reza Hamidiravari, an intelligence officer working under the MOIS and overseeing operations led by Naji Zindashti, was also included on the sanctions list.

The European Union has reaffirmed its commitment to upholding human rights and combating transnational organized crime and repression.
