Iraqi Politician Condemns Drone Strikes on Kurdistan Oil Fields, Warns of Threat to National Security
“These repeated assaults reveal the intent of rogue militias that do not want Iraq to move toward comprehensive political, security, social, and economic stability,” al-Khanjar stated.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — Khamis al-Khanjar, a prominent Iraqi politician and head of the al-Siyada Alliance in the Iraqi Council of Representatives, on Wednesday strongly condemned the recent drone attacks that targeted oil fields in the Duhok and Erbil provinces, warning that such acts pose a grave threat to Iraq’s national security and stability.
In a statement, al-Khanjar said the "terrorist attacks" using explosive-laden drones represent a direct assault on the resources of the Iraqi people. He noted that the timing of the attacks, which coincided with a resolution to the long-standing dispute over public sector salaries in the Kurdistan Region, is especially troubling.
“These repeated assaults, coming just as the salary crisis in the Kurdistan Region is being resolved through genuine national cooperation between Baghdad and Erbil, reveal the intent of rogue militias that do not want Iraq to move toward comprehensive political, security, social, and economic stability,” al-Khanjar stated.
He voiced full support for Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani’s efforts to uncover the entities behind the attacks and backed the Iraqi security forces in their mission to counter such threats.
The statement follows a string of drone attacks in recent days targeting critical energy infrastructure in the Kurdistan Region, including facilities operated by U.S.-affiliated HKN Energy and Norwegian company DNO ASA. While no group has claimed responsibility, the assaults have raised alarms over Iraq's sovereignty and broader regional stability.
