ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – In an official statement to Kurdistan24, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) confirmed that at least 360 people have been killed in Suwayda over the past 90 hours of intense conflict, in what the group described as a preliminary toll following large-scale violations, executions, and bombings in the southern Syrian province.

Withdrawal of Syrian Defense Forces Begins After Days of Carnage

SOHR reported that forces affiliated with Syria’s Ministry of Defense have begun withdrawing from Suwayda province after nearly four days of violent clashes between government troops and local Druze fighters. The confrontations were marked by extrajudicial executions and grave violations against civilians and local combatants.

While the withdrawal is underway, SOHR warned that the confirmed death toll of 360 is not final, as dozens more fatalities are suspected among civilians, Druze fighters, and regime forces.

Breakdown of the Death Toll

According to SOHR’s data, the casualties recorded between Sunday, July 13, and Wednesday include:

-107 residents of Suwayda, among them 28 civilians, including four children and four women.
-207 members of Syria’s Ministry of Defense and General Security, including 18 from Bedouin tribes.
-15 military personnel according to SOHR from the Ministries of Defense and Interior killed in Israeli airstrikes.
-but SANA stated that 3 people from the Ministries of Defense and Interior were killed in Israeli airstrikes.
-Three individuals, including one woman and two unidentified victims, killed in an Israeli airstrike targeting the Ministry of Defense building.
-One journalist killed during the clashes in Suwayda.
-27 individuals, including four women and an elderly man, executed in the field by members of the Ministries of Defense and Interior.

SOHR Urges Accountability and International Action

The Syrian Observatory sounded alarm over the grave violations committed during the military operations, warning of their potential to ignite wider violence and instability across Syria. “What has occurred in Suwayda is a dangerous alarm bell that signals an escalation of violence and deteriorating security amid a continued absence of accountability,” the organization stated.

SOHR urged the international community and human rights organizations to assume their responsibilities in protecting civilians and ensuring accountability for those involved in war crimes and atrocities committed in Suwayda.

As the dust begins to settle, the province remains haunted by one of the deadliest escalations it has witnessed in years, with calls mounting for justice and a sustainable end to impunity.
