ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – United States Congressman Abraham J. Hamadeh issued a forceful statement on Sunday denouncing what he described as the “barbaric violence” being perpetrated against the Druze community in Syria, calling for immediate action from the Syrian government to restore order and protect all citizens.

In a post on X, Hamadeh said, “The barbaric violence against the Druze community in Syria must end immediately.” His statement comes in the wake of alarming reports of mass casualties and rising sectarian tensions in the Druze-majority province of Suwayda.

Hamadeh highlighted previous U.S. efforts under the leadership of President Donald J. Trump, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Special Envoy for Syria Tom Barrack, noting that Washington had taken “groundbreaking steps to ease sanctions and extend goodwill to the Syrian government and its people in the hope of seeing real reforms.”

A Call for Syrian Accountability

Turning his attention to the Syrian leadership, the Congressman emphasized that words must now be translated into meaningful change.

“Now is the time for the Syrian government to turn their words into real actions—if they want to maintain legitimacy: restore order, protect all of its citizens, and demonstrate a genuine commitment to peace and long-term stability,” he stated.

Hamadeh underscored that peace in Syria could only be achieved through an inclusive vision. “The only way is to build a new Syria that is reflective of its ethnic and religious mosaic,” he said.

U.S. Stance on Syrian Stability

Reaffirming the U.S. interest in a peaceful and prosperous Syria, the Congressman added, “The United States wants Syria to succeed, but bloodshed, senseless violence, and division is not the path forward.”

Hamadeh’s remarks follow a series of high-level American and international calls for an immediate cessation of hostilities and the protection of civilians, as violence continues to erupt across multiple regions in Syria, including Suwayda and the coastal areas.
