Wasit Governor Resigns Following Deadly Kut Fire That Killed 61

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Wasit Governor Muhammad Jamil al-Mayahi resigned on Wednesday.
In a post on his Facebook account, the governor stated, "I resigned today before the provincial council as an expression of loyalty to the families of the martyrs of the fire incident and the people of the province. I resigned."
He added, "I hope that this initiative brings some comfort to the souls of the martyrs and alleviates a little of the suffering of their relatives."
On July 17, 61 people were killed in a fire at a hypermarket in the city of Kut, Wasit province, with most victims succumbing to smoke inhalation.
