Lukman Faily Assumes Role as Iraq’s UN Envoy

Faily was born in 1966 into a wealthy Kurdish Feyli family in Baghdad. He is fluent in English, Arabic, and Kurdish.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Lukman Faily, the new Permanent Representative of Iraq to the United Nations, presented his credentials to UN Secretary-General António Guterres on Thursday.

Faily extended the greetings of the Iraqi government to Secretary-General Guterres and commended the United Nations for its ongoing support to Iraq in sustainable development, humanitarian assistance, reconstruction, and institutional capacity building.

He reaffirmed Iraq's commitment to the principles and objectives of the United Nations. He expressed the country's readiness to collaborate with international organizations and various bodies to advance Iraq's interests and promote peace, security, and development at both regional and global levels.

In response, Secretary-General Guterres reiterated the UN's commitment to continue supporting development and stability in Iraq.

Faily was born in 1966 into a wealthy Kurdish Feyli family in Baghdad. He is fluent in English, Arabic, and Kurdish. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Computer Science from Manchester Metropolitan University, as well as a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Technology Management and a postgraduate degree in Computing for Commerce and Industry.
