Syria, France, and U.S. Issue Joint Statement on Political Transition and Stability Efforts

Syria, France, and the U.S. reaffirmed commitment to political transition, counterterrorism, and regional stability in joint talks. The Paris meeting emphasized sovereignty, reconciliation, and SDF-Syria dialogue, aiming for lasting peace and justice in Syria.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – In a landmark diplomatic move, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Syrian Arab Republic Issued a joint statement on Friday with the French Republic, and the United States of America reaffirming their commitment to political transition, regional stability, and coordinated counterterrorism efforts in Syria.

The statement follows a meeting in Paris, bringing together Syrian Foreign Minister Assad al-Shibani, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot, and U.S. Special Envoy to Syria and Ambassador to Turkey Thomas Barrack.

Trilateral Dialogue in a Defining Moment for Syria

Described as “frank and constructive,” the discussions took place during what all sides acknowledged as a critical juncture for Syria. The trilateral statement underscored the importance of reducing tensions and advancing collaborative frameworks to support a sustainable political path forward.

In a spirit of mutual engagement, the three parties agreed on the urgent need to:

- Accelerate meaningful efforts to ensure a successful political transition in Syria that safeguards the country’s unity, stability, and full sovereignty.

- Maintain joint cooperation to combat terrorism in all its forms and strengthen Syrian state institutions to meet pressing security challenges.

- Support the Syrian government’s leadership in a political transition process aimed at national reconciliation and social cohesion—particularly in Northeast Syria and Suwayda province.

- Convene a new round of consultations between the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in Paris as soon as possible, to fully implement the terms of the March 10 agreement.

- Uphold accountability for acts of violence and welcome the findings of transparent investigations, including the most recent report by the National Independent Committee on the events in Syria’s coastal region.

- Reaffirm that neighboring countries must not pose a threat to Syria’s stability and, in return, that Syria must not endanger the security of its neighbors—ensuring the collective stability of the wider region.

Shared Commitment to Regional Peace and Justice

The joint communiqué concluded with a shared emphasis on cooperation and accountability, reflecting the strategic interests of all three nations in securing a peaceful, united, and sovereign Syria.

The agreement further highlighted the need to continue diplomatic and security coordination in order to support Syria’s transition while ensuring justice for victims of violence and enhancing regional security structures.
