President Barzani, French Envoy Discuss Regional Challenges, Erbil-Baghdad Relations

President Masoud Barzani and the French Consul General met in Pirmam to discuss regional challenges, the political situation in Iraq, and relations between Erbil and Baghdad, while reaffirming the friendly ties between Kurdistan and France.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – President Masoud Barzani and France’s Consul General in Erbil, Yann Braem, met on Tuesday to conduct a thorough review of the political situation in Iraq, the crucial relationship between the Kurdistan Regional Government and Baghdad, and the broader challenges facing the region.

The high-level meeting took place in Pirmam on Tuesday, according to a readout from Barzani Headquarters. The statement indicated that the meeting provided a platform for a comprehensive discussion on the political and security landscape.

A central focus of the dialogue, as detailed in the readout, was an exchange of views on "the developments and challenges in the region in general."

According to Barzani Headquarters, this broad topic was complemented by a specific examination of "the political situation in Iraq and the relations between the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Federal Government of Iraq."

In addition to addressing pressing political matters, the meeting also served to reaffirm the enduring partnership between the Kurdistan Region and France.
