Vital Garmian Road Nears Completion
The Kifri-Qarablagh road project in Garmian, 85% complete, will connect over 20 villages, boost agriculture, and ease travel. The 7-billion-dinar KRG project was a key demand from local residents.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — A crucial infrastructure project designed to connect communities, revitalize the agricultural sector, and ease the daily lives of residents in the Garmian Independent Administration is now in its final stage, with a key roadway linking the city of Kifri and the sub-district of Kokiz now 85 percent complete. The construction, funded by the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), represents a significant investment in the region's development and a direct response to the long-standing needs of the local population.
The Kifri-Qarablagh road project, with a budget exceeding seven billion dinars, is a strategic 24-kilometer route that promises to transform the area. Adnan Khalil, the Director of Roads and Bridges of Garmian, provided an update on the substantial progress to Kurdistan24.
"Thank God, 85% of the project is complete. It connects the sub-district of Kokiz to the city of Kifri," he stated. Highlighting the immense benefit for travelers, he added, "Previously, if you wanted to go from that sub-district to Kifri, you had to pass through Kalar and the sub-districts of Sarqala and Rizgari. But now, with this 24-kilometer road, you can travel from the Kokiz sub-district to Kifri, not to mention the villages located along this road that will benefit, both in terms of agriculture and for travel."
The construction of this road was a primary demand of the local people, and its implementation is being met with widespread appreciation. The project is expected to bring further revitalization to more than 20 villages in the area, greatly facilitating travel for villagers who previously faced significant hardship.
One local resident, Yadgar Khalil, expressed his contentment with the project's progress. "Many thanks to the Kurdistan Regional Government for building this road for us after so many years," he said. Describing the former conditions, he added, "There are about 20 villages on this road. Previously, the road was in very poor condition, and the residents of this area could travel on it only with great difficulty."
This project is a key part of a broader KRG initiative to enhance infrastructure within the Garmian Independent Administration. Since the beginning of the ninth cabinet's term, more than 200 billion dinars have been allocated to the roads and bridges sector in the administration, demonstrating a sustained commitment to regional development.
As work crews are now paving the final section of the Kifri-Qarablagh road, the KRG’s aim of revitalizing the area's villages and agricultural sector, while significantly improving daily life for the local population, is moving closer to full realization.
