ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The entire Zakho independent administration will receive uninterrupted 24-hour electricity by October this year, according to a statement released on Monday by Aziz Ahmad, Deputy Chief of Staff to the Kurdistan Region Prime Minister, Masrour Barzani.

In a post on social media platform X, Ahmad confirmed the power upgrade is part of the Kurdistan Regional Government's (KRG) ambitious Runaki program aimed at providing reliable and affordable electricity across the region.

“No more cuts. No more circuit trips,” Ahmad wrote, emphasizing the government's goal of ending years of inconsistent power supply in Zakho.

The announcement marks a significant step toward fulfilling a broader promise made by Prime Minister Masrour Barzani. In 2023, Barzani pledged that every home and business in the Kurdistan Region would have access to 24-hour electricity by the end of 2026. That promise was reaffirmed by the KRG's Ninth Cabinet earlier this year as a top priority.

The Runaki program reflects the government’s continued investment in infrastructure and public services to improve the quality of life and promote economic development across the region.
