Netanyahu Vows to Update Gaza War Strategy Ahead of Key UN Security Council Meeting
Netanyahu reaffirmed Israel’s stance, stating, “Our three war goals remain unchanged: the defeat of the enemy, the release of our hostages, and ensuring that Gaza will no longer be a threat to Israel.”

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced Monday that his government will soon unveil an updated strategy for the ongoing war in Gaza, ahead of a crucial United Nations Security Council session focused on hostages still held in the Palestinian enclave.
Speaking at a cabinet meeting, Netanyahu said he would later this week instruct the Israeli military on new steps to achieve what he described as the war’s three central objectives: defeating Hamas, securing the release of hostages, and ensuring Gaza can no longer pose a threat to Israel.
According to reports by Israeli broadcaster Channel 12 and The Jerusalem Post, the proposed updated plan includes a controversial step: reoccupying all of Gaza, including parts of Gaza City believed to be housing hostages. The reports indicated that the Israeli cabinet is expected to convene on Tuesday to formally endorse the plan.
While there has been no official confirmation of the details, the Palestinian Authority’s foreign ministry swiftly condemned the reported proposal, describing it as a “leaked plan” and calling on the international community to prevent any renewed military occupation of Gaza.
In parallel diplomatic efforts, Israel—supported by the United States and Panama—is pushing for a UN Security Council meeting scheduled for Tuesday to spotlight the plight of the hostages. Netanyahu reaffirmed Israel’s stance, stating, “Our three war goals remain unchanged: the defeat of the enemy, the release of our hostages, and ensuring that Gaza will no longer be a threat to Israel.”
The renewed focus on hostages comes amid calls from within Israel as well. Hundreds of retired Israeli security officials have appealed to U.S. President Donald Trump, urging him to intervene and pressure Netanyahu to bring the conflict to an end.
