Erbil (Kurdistan24) – Faisal Youssef, spokesperson for the Kurdish National Council in Syria (KNCS) and member of the joint Kurdish delegation negotiating with Damascus, stated on Wednesday, that the Syrian regime has yet to respond to Kurdish demands, despite several rounds of talks.

Speaking to Kurdistan24, Youssef confirmed that the Kurdish position is clear and united across all sides, emphasizing that Kurdish aspirations have been presented consistently in meetings with Syrian officials, but “there have been no concrete steps or outcomes until now.”

He added, “Our shared vision is for a new Syria that recognizes the rights of all its national and ethnic components. We want equal participation in the country’s future, not a Syria where one side dominates or marginalizes others.”

No international guarantees, continued fears of marginalization

Youssef warned that there is no guarantee the Kurdish people will not face the same aggression that targeted other communities. He stressed the importance of ending the policy of Arabization and erasing Kurdish identity in Syria.

The remarks come as the joint Kurdish delegation held its first formal session today with the Syrian government, exploring the mechanism for launching a new negotiation phase. However, KNCS says there has been no international initiative addressing Kurdish rights in Syria so far.

Youssef concluded by calling for genuine and inclusive political dialogue that upholds equality and national recognition for all groups within Syria.
