Türkiye’s Ruling Party: Parliamentary Commission Will Not Amend Türkiye’s Constitution
AKP says new parliamentary commission will only oversee PKK disarmament, rejecting negotiations or constitutional amendments. The body, focused on "weapons surrender," met for closed-door briefings amid national unity rhetoric.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) has firmly denied that the newly formed Turkish parliamentary commission on the peace process will pursue constitutional amendments, negotiations, or political deals, stressing that its mandate is limited to the disarmament of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).
On Friday, AKP Deputy Chair Hüseyin Yayman stated that the commission’s role is solely focused on “the surrender of weapons and the dismantling of the PKK,” rejecting any suggestion that it involves “bargaining, talks, agreements, or changes to the state’s constitution.”
“This process is a state project aimed at making the 21st century the century of Turks, Kurds, and Arabs,” Yayman said, underscoring the government’s framing of the initiative as part of a broader national unity vision.
The remarks came as the Parliamentary Commission on Democracy, Brotherhood, and National Unity convened for the second time on Friday. Turkish Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş, opening the session, confirmed that officials would brief the commission on developments in the process, but emphasized that no details would be made public.
