ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — Nearly 80% of civil servants in Slemani province have registered for the Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) MyAccount program, according to Azizi Ahmad, Deputy Chief of Staff to Prime Minister Masrour Barzani.

In a post on his official X account, Ahmad thanked all those who contributed to the progress, adding that the government will “accelerate card delivery, ATM deployment and the move to digital payments.”

Launched by the KRG in 2023, the MyAccount program aims to modernize the region’s public payment system by linking civil servants’ salaries directly to bank accounts, thereby reducing cash dependence, improving transparency, and combating corruption. The initiative also seeks to expand access to banking services, particularly in underserved areas, through increased ATM deployment and digital payment options.

The KRG has been pushing for accelerated enrollment as part of its broader financial reforms, which have also drawn support from international partners seeking to strengthen the Kurdistan Region’s fiscal stability.

The KRG has also made significant strides in expanding cash access throughout the region by deploying solar-powered ATM hubs, a move highlighted by Azizi Ahmad in a recent X post. This initiative provides “24-hour access to cash” for residents and visitors alike, with over 430 solar-powered ATMs now operational and plans to increase that number to nearly 1,000.

The solar-powered ATMs support the KRG’s goals of modernizing financial infrastructure and promoting sustainable energy solutions. This effort forms part of a wider government push toward digital governance, infrastructure development, and boosting economic resilience.
