Massive Forest Fire Ravages 247 acres in Sharba­zher, Sulaimani

A major blaze destroyed 247 acres of woodland in Sharbazher, affecting multiple villages. Firefighters and locals contained it, but the cause remains under investigation.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The Directorate of Forest and Environment Police in Sulaimani province announced on Sunday, that a large-scale forest fire had erupted in the Sharba­zher area, destroying approximately 247 acres of wooded land and grasslands.

According to the directorate’s statement, the blaze broke out in the villages of Beyor, Siong, Kani Shwan, Berisk, and Norabab, all within the Sharba­zher administrative boundary.

Immediately after the incident, the Sharba­zher Forest Police unit intervened to contain the flames. The firefighting operation witnessed extensive cooperation between Civil Defense teams from the Chwarta district and the town of Sitak, with additional support from the Chwarta mayor’s office. Residents from nearby areas also joined efforts to help extinguish the fire.

Authorities confirmed that the combined response was instrumental in bringing the blaze under control.

The Directorate of Forest and Environment Police stated that the cause of the fire remains unknown, and investigations are ongoing to determine its origins and circumstances.
