KRG Reaches Milestone in Debit Card Distribution to Public Sector Employees
Ahmad on Sunday announced that the government plans to pay nearly 437,000 employees through bank accounts next month, marking a significant step toward modernizing salary distribution. He added that this figure is projected to increase by up to 15 percent each month.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has delivered more than 500,000 debit cards to civil servants and security personnel across the region, according to Aziz Ahmad, Deputy Chief of Staff to Prime Minister Masrour Barzani.
In a post on his official X account, Ahmad on Sunday announced that the government plans to pay nearly 437,000 employees through bank accounts next month, marking a significant step toward modernizing salary distribution. He added that this figure is projected to increase by up to 15 percent each month.
The KRG’s transition to electronic salary payments is part of a broader effort to enhance financial transparency, reduce reliance on cash transactions, and promote banking sector development in the Kurdistan Region. Officials have stated that expanding the use of bank accounts will also make it easier for employees to access loans, manage savings, and conduct secure transactions.
The move comes as the KRG continues to implement financial reforms aimed at streamlining public sector payroll and reducing administrative costs, while also strengthening oversight of public funds.
