ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The Iraqi Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) has disqualified 68 candidates from contesting in the upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled for Nov. 11.

In a statement released on Sunday, the commission confirmed that candidates Ahmad al-Jabbari and Najm al-Jabbari were excluded due to criminal records. The remaining 66 candidates were barred for various legal and procedural reasons.

This decision follows a recent move by the IHEC to exclude 47 other candidates from the race, underscoring its ongoing vetting process to ensure compliance with electoral laws.

On April 9, Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani’s press office announced that the Council of Ministers had unanimously approved Nov. 11 as the official date for the next parliamentary elections.
