Nationwide Power Outage Hits Iraq, Ministry Yet to Explain Cause

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The Iraqi Ministry of Electricity has not yet provided an explanation for a major power outage that has left much of the country in the dark.

Kurdistan24 correspondent Shivan Jabari, reporting from Baghdad, said the outage in central and southern Iraq was caused by a fault in the transmission system.

From Kirkuk, Kurdistan24’s Hemin Dalo reported that electricity has been cut off across Iraq for reasons still unknown. The director of electricity distribution in Kirkuk confirmed the blackout and said it is expected to last for at least five hours.

So far, the Ministry of Electricity has issued no official statement on the incident.
