US, Jordan, and Syria Agree on Joint Action Plan to Address Sweida Crisis
The U.S. envoy secured Damascus' commitment to investigate hospital attacks, restore services and allow UN aid. His trilateral pact establishes joint oversight of ceasefire terms and reconstruction, with a working group monitoring implementation in the volatile province.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The United States, Jordan, and Syria have pledged coordinated efforts to stabilize the southern Syrian province of Sweida, ensure accountability for recent atrocities, and advance inclusive reconstruction, following a high-level tripartite meeting held in Amman on Tuesday.
U.S. Ambassador to Türkiye and Special Envoy for Syria Tom Barrack said in a post on X that Syria remains “steadfastly committed to a united process that honors and protects all its constituencies, fostering a shared future for the Syrian people despite intervening forces seeking to disrupt and displace its communities.” He underscored that delivering justice and ending impunity are essential for achieving lasting peace, noting that the Syrian government has pledged to utilize all resources to hold perpetrators of the Sweida atrocities accountable, including the violence at Sweida National Hospital, in full cooperation with the United Nations. Barrack also stressed the importance of increasing humanitarian aid to southwest Syria to support those affected by the conflict.

The joint session, hosted by Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Syrian Foreign Minister Assad al-Shaibani, and Ambassador Barrack, was attended by senior officials from the three countries. It followed earlier discussions in Amman on July 19, which focused on solidifying the ceasefire in Sweida and resolving the ongoing crisis there.
Participants reaffirmed that Sweida, with all its local communities, is an integral part of Syria, whose people are entitled to full rights and representation in shaping the country’s future. They stressed that the province’s role is central in building a secure and inclusive Syrian state.
Jordan and the United States welcomed several steps pledged by Damascus, including:
Conducting comprehensive investigations and prosecuting all those responsible for crimes and violations in Sweida.
Cooperating with relevant UN agencies in the investigation process.
Increasing humanitarian aid access and improving its flow to all areas of the province.
Restoring essential public services disrupted by recent events.
Initiating rehabilitation of damaged areas.
Supporting the return of displaced residents.
Launching community reconciliation initiatives to strengthen civil peace.
Safadi and Barrack reiterated their countries’ full support for Syria’s security, stability, sovereignty, and territorial unity, urging the international community to assist Syria in rebuilding on foundations that secure its stability, meet the aspirations of its people, and preserve the rights of all Syrians.
The three parties agreed to convene again in the coming weeks to continue deliberations and respond to Syria’s request to form a joint Syrian–Jordanian–American working group aimed at consolidating the ceasefire and ending the crisis in Sweida.
