ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – In a significant and ongoing effort to preserve Kurdish heritage for future generations living abroad, the Kurdistan Regional Government's (KRG) Ministry of Education is preparing to launch the fourth iteration of its successful online Kurdish language learning course for the global diaspora.

This important initiative, which first began in 2022 as a cooperative project between the Ministry of Education and the Confederation of the Kurdistan Diaspora, aims to strengthen the cultural and linguistic bonds between members of the diaspora and their homeland.

To date, three courses have been successfully conducted, with thousands of compatriots from around the world having benefited from the program. The fourth course is officially scheduled to commence on Oct. 1, 2025.

The program's impact is deeply felt by its participants, who see it as a vital link to their roots.

Laura Chicho, a young sibling duo residing in Germany with her brother Carlos, expressed a powerful motivation for enrolling. "I would like to be able to speak and write in Kurdish if I go back to Kurdistan," she said, highlighting the spiritual connection that many in the diaspora maintain with their motherland despite the geographical distance.

This sentiment is strongly supported by the older generation.

The children's father, Chicho Siwemili, a Kurdish activist also based in Germany, conveyed his gratitude to the Kurdistan Regional Government for undertaking this project.

"As parents, it is our responsibility to teach our children the Kurdish language," he stated. Mr. Siwemili believes that learning their native tongue is not only crucial for preserving national identity but also uniquely positions Kurdish children to contribute to and serve the countries where they now reside "in a Kurdish way."

The course is structured to be comprehensive and accessible, featuring instruction from skilled and proficient teachers. A key feature is its inclusion of all three major Kurdish dialects: Sorani, Badini, and Kurmanji.

Upon successful completion of the program, students are awarded an official certificate from the Ministry of Education, a credential that has already been granted to 1,000 compatriots who participated in the previous courses.

Registration for the upcoming session is now open to people from Kurdistan in any country or city in the world through an online portal at kurdistanidc.org/ziman.
