ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) on Friday lauded the Government of Iraq for significantly accelerating the repatriation of its citizens from displacement camps in northeast Syria, framing the effort as a demonstration of Baghdad's commitment to the enduring defeat of ISIS and a critical contribution to regional stability.

In a statement released on the social media platform X, the U.S. military command confirmed that Iraq has repatriated over 25,000 of its citizens from camps in Syria.

This action, CENTCOM noted, showcases a tangible commitment by the Iraqi government to addressing the complex security and humanitarian challenges remaining in the aftermath of the territorial defeat of the terrorist organization.

The command highlighted that Iraq has increased the number of its citizens returned from the Syrian al-Hol and al-Roj camps by 165 percent on a year-over-year basis, an acceleration it described as pivotal.

According to CENTCOM, this commitment to more rapid repatriations has yielded significant results, enabling the return home of 80 percent of the entire Iraqi population that had been residing at the al-Hol camp.

This specific milestone underscores the scale and impact of the Iraqi government's recent efforts to resolve the status of its nationals living in the sprawling camps.

The U.S. military command emphasized that these achievements represent critical contributions by Iraq within its partnership with both CENTCOM and the wider Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS.

The statement positioned the repatriation process not only as a national responsibility but also as a key component of the collaborative international mission to ensure the terrorist group cannot resurge.

By taking decisive action to manage its population from the camps, Iraq is directly advancing the shared goals of regional security and long-term stability, the CENTCOM post concluded.
