Iraqi Speaker Lauds KDP's Historic Role in National Struggle, Iraqi Democracy
Iraqi Speaker al-Mashhadani congratulated the KDP on its 79th anniversary, praising its historic sacrifices for freedom and its role in cementing Iraqi democracy and national partnership, according to a formal message.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Iraqi Parliament Speaker Mahmoud al-Mashhadani on Saturday praised the Kurdistan Democratic Party’s (KDP) historic role in the national struggle for freedom and justice, describing its establishment as a pivotal moment that contributed to cementing democracy and political pluralism in Iraq.
The commendation came in a formal message of congratulations on the occasion of the party's 79th founding anniversary.
In the message issued on Saturday, the Speaker of the Iraqi Council of Representatives extended his "sincere congratulations and blessings" to His Excellency President Masoud Barzani.
The well-wishes were also directed to the leadership of the party and its institutions, including the Political Bureau, the General Leadership, and its branches, as well as its popular, youth, women's, and cultural organizations, and to the dear Kurdish people in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
The Speaker's message described the establishment of the party in 1946 at the hands of the immortal leader Mulla Mustafa Barzani as representing "an important historical milestone in the journey of national struggle."
The statement further noted that the party made "great sacrifices in defense of freedom and justice" and "contributed to cementing the values of democracy and political pluralism in Iraq."
In the commemorative message, Dr. al-Mashhadani also stated that the heroics of the party's founder and its members are recalled "with reverence and greatness."
He affirmed that his office values the KDP's "continuous role in supporting the political process and strengthening national partnership," framing these contributions as actions that serve "the unity, stability, and prosperity of Iraq."
The message concluded with a final salutation, offering "Sincere congratulations to the Kurdish people and to the Kurdistan Democratic Party—its leadership, institutions, and popular bases—on this glorious anniversary."
