Iraqi Government Approves June Salaries for Kurdistan Region Public Employees
The council confirmed that the payment decision follows recommendations from a special committee formed during its 27th session on July 8.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The Iraqi Council of Ministers, chaired by Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, held its 33rd regular meeting on Tuesday, during which it decided to release the June salaries of public employees in the Kurdistan Region.
The council confirmed that the payment decision follows recommendations from a special committee formed during its 27th session on July 8. The committee was established on al-Sudani’s suggestion to address salary-related issues between Baghdad and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).
The council emphasized that joint committees from Erbil and Baghdad will continue their work, and a detailed report on broader financial and administrative matters concerning the KRG is expected next week.
Previously, Iraqi Planning Ministry spokesperson Abdul Zahra Hindawi told Kurdistan24 that oil exports from the Kurdistan Region are “in progress” following recent negotiations, and that an agreement has been reached on non-oil revenues.
The salary dispute has been one of the most contentious issues in Baghdad-Erbil relations. For years, delays and disagreements over budget transfers and oil revenues have led to recurring crises, leaving hundreds of thousands of public employees in the Kurdistan Region without regular salaries.
This latest decision is viewed as a positive step toward easing tensions and ensuring financial stability for public employees in the Kurdistan Region, though long-term solutions still depend on ongoing negotiations over oil exports, non-oil revenues, and the federal budget law.
