KDP Spokesperson Outlines Progress on New KRG Cabinet, Addresses Erbil-Baghdad Relations
Mohammed announced that a joint delegation from the KDP and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) has reached an agreement on the key principles of government formation.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Mahmoud Mohammed, spokesperson for the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), held a press conference on Monday to discuss recent developments in the formation of the new Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) cabinet, the situation in Sulaimani, and relations with Baghdad.
Mohammed announced that a joint delegation from the KDP and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) has reached an agreement on the key principles of government formation. He added that the distribution of posts has been “largely settled,” with another meeting planned in the coming days. According to him, the Kurdistan Region presidency is expected to be elected next month.
Turning to the security and political situation in Sulaimani, Mohammed sought to reassure citizens. “The people of Sulaimani do not deserve to be worried like this anymore,” he said, stressing the importance of addressing disputes through political dialogue and adherence to the rule of law.
PUK forces arrested People's Front leader Lahur Sheikh Jangi and his brother, Polad Sheikh Jangi, on Thursday following intense fighting at the Lalazar Hotel, which is also Sheikh Jangi's residence.
When asked about the timeline of forming the new cabinet in relation to Iraq’s upcoming parliamentary elections, Mohammed explained that the process depends on parliamentary procedures in the Kurdistan Region. “If the presidency of parliament is established, other steps will follow according to their timelines and legal procedures,” he noted.
On relations with Baghdad, the KDP spokesperson sharply criticized the federal government’s approach toward the Kurdistan Region. “What Baghdad is doing towards the Kurdish people is starving them and putting pressure on them,” he said.
The Iraqi Council of Ministers is set to convene its regular session on Tuesday, with employee salaries in the Kurdistan Region and oil exports on the agenda, according to Kurdistan24 reporter Dilan Barzan in Baghdad.
