ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The Al-Chibayish Marshes, located east of Nasiriyah, the capital of Dhi Qar Governorate, are a stunning network of wetlands in Iraq. These marshes are an extension of the Abu Zirig Marshes and the Hammar Marshes.
Fed by the waters of the Euphrates and Tigris Rivers, the Al-Chibayish Marshes are a haven for diverse wildlife. Bird species such as the oropendola, starling, moorhen, seagull, and heron thrive in this unique ecosystem.
The marshes also support a variety of fish, including chelon, carp, and Leuciscus vorax. Additionally, the area is rich in aquatic plants, with reeds and sedges being particularly abundant.
