ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) – Iraqi security forces recently confiscated several types of military equipment used by the Islamic State (IS), including weapons, shells, armored vehicles, booby-traps, and a Russian tank.

In the video, Soran Kamaran, a Kurdistan24 correspondent in southeastern Mosul, shows the seized armored vehicle of an IS senior leader.

The Jeep brand vehicle was used by the leader to move from one place to another in the insurgent-controlled areas of Mosul, according to Iraqi commanders.

Additionally, the forces confiscated a large number of shells which, according to the labels, were created by IS in January 2016.

In addition to mortars, the Iraqi forces also seized a Russian military tank that belonged to the Syrian army which IS confiscated years before.

Most of the equipment were seized recently as the Iraqi and Kurdish Peshmerga forces launched the Mosul operation on Oct. 17.

IS emerged in Mosul in June 2014 and occupied large swaths of territory. Since then, the group has lost most of the areas it once controlled and continues to shrink.
