ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) - The father of an internally displaced person (IDP) in the Kurdistan Region called for adopting his child after his wife passed away, but could not depart with his kid last minute when a Kurdish family was ready to adopt the child.

Previously, an IDP from Mosul who currently lives in Hassan Sham camp in western Erbil called for help through Kurdistan24, asking a caring family to adopt his one-year-old daughter after her mother passed away several months ago.

He said that it is challenging for him to care for her since they live in a difficult condition. Tabarak is one year and two months old. Her father mentioned that he is obliged to tighten her leg sometimes inside the shelter so that he can go out to receive the humanitarian aid or prepare food.

After Tabarak's father called for help, a Kurdish family came to the IDP camp and expressed interest to adopt the child, but the father regretted his decision last minute.

"She is the only one I have. I lost my wife and the two other children," he sobbed.

Captain Jum'a, a Peshmerga officer came with his family from Kirkuk province to take Tabarak. "After we saw the news, we couldn't just watch and do nothing."

The Peshmerga officer also sent a message, stating "Da'esh makes children orphan, but we become the children's parents," using Arabic pejorative acronym for the Islamic State (IS).

The following video shows two Kurdish families who came to the camp and willing to adopt Tabarak, but the father regretted his decision:

Kurdistan Region is home to over 1.8 million IDPs and refugees who fled from the in Syria and other parts of Iraq.
