MOSUL, Iraq (Kurdistan24) – A restaurant recently opened under a collapsed building supported by one pillar attracts the people of Mosul with its delicious grilled foods.

In the video below, Kurdistan24 Correspondent Hemin Haini visits the restaurant in the town of Gogjali, east of Mosul.

Despite the threat of the building collapsing, the restaurant maintains good business with many local people visiting the area.

“Why should we be scared? We the people of Mosul have seen worse before,” the owner of the restaurant told Kurdistan24.

“We have been continuously bombarded by shells. We were rescued from death many times,” he continued.

One of the clients who was eating in the restaurant told Kurdistan24 he was passing by the area and was attracted by the location beneath a destroyed building.

“Their barbecues are very delicious,” said another visitor. “Their foods are good and affordable.”

Iraqi and Peshmerga forces launched a military operation on Oct. 17 to liberate the city from the so-called Islamic State (IS) as it had been under the group’s control since June 2014.

The operation is ongoing, and the forces have liberated over 20 percent of Mosul, the second-largest city in Iraq.
