ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) – A mortar shell by the so-called Islamic State (IS) in Mosul wounded and ruined the life of a civilian.

In the video below, Kurdistan24 Correspondent Afsanah Shamohammadi interviews an Internally Displaced Person (IDP) from Mosul who became a victim of an IS mortar strike.

Muntaha said she was busy cooking in the kitchen of her house when an IS mortar shell hit her home and severely wounded her.

A substantial portion of her body and face had been affected due to the impact of the bombardment.

“I was pregnant with a six-month-old child,” she told Kurdistan24. “The bombardment aborted my pregnancy and left me in a terrible condition.”

She lost some of her fingers and had gone through several surgeries.

Muntaha called for help from people and charity groups to provide financial support for the treatment of her injuries.

Muntaha and her family now live in an IDP camp in western Erbil called Hassan Sham.

The Kurdistan Region is home to over 1.8 million refugees and IDPs who fled from Syria and other parts of Iraq due to the threat of IS.

Many of them share miserable stories of their experiences before escaping from the extremist group.
