VIDEO: Erbil security confiscates 6KG of opium planned for shipment abroad

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) – Since the beginning of 2017, Erbil security officials from the Drug Prevention Directorate arrested 33 people involved in dealing and consuming illicit drugs, according to a statement released on Thursday.

The statement mentioned the Directorate had arrested an Iranian woman who entered the Kurdistan Region through the Haji Omaran international border crossing on Jan. 17.

She hid 45 grams of the illegal crystal drug inside her body, and doctors at a hospital were required to remove the drugs.

Moreover, the directorate stated they had confiscated 18,000 Tramadol and Trifin pills.

The security also noted they had seized two pieces of iron which contained two kilograms of opium hidden inside.

The statement added the security confiscated a machine meant to be transported abroad with six kilograms of opium hidden inside.

In another part of the report, the security revealed they arrested two Iranian persons at the Haji Omaran border crossing on Jan. 24.

Each suspect had attached four kilograms of opium to their bodies, according to security officials.

In total, the directorate arrested 33 people involved in illegal drugs; 22 of them were consuming the drugs while the rest were trafficking them.

 

In October 2016, Erbil security discovered a Marijuana field in the Kurdistan Region and arrested a group of eight persons.

The group was producing illegal narcotics in the area without the permission of a landowner.

Security officials destroyed the field and confiscated five kilograms of drugs inside the group’s house in the neighborhood.
