VIDEO: Foreign diplomats in Kurdistan dress in Kurdish at Newroz

Currently, foreign representative offices and consulates of 34 countries are based in the Kurdistan Region, including five countries that have veto power in the United Nations.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) – The Kurdistan Region President received foreign diplomats and representatives in the Region on Wednesday during Newroz, Kurdish New Year, celebrations.

Masoud Barzani the Kurdistan Region President welcomed diplomats and representatives of foreign countries attending a Newroz gathering in the city of Erbil, the capital of Kurdistan Region.

According to a Kurdistan24 reporter, President Barzani and foreign diplomats and representatives discussed several topics including developments of the Mosul liberation operation and the post-Islamic State (IS) Mosul.

The reporter added that several diplomats who attended the Newroz gathering put on Kurdish traditional garments.

In a statement by the Kurdistan Region Presidency (KRP) the foreign diplomats thanked President Barzani for arranging the Newroz gathering and reiterated their interest in developing the bilateral relations with the Region on various fronts.

Falah Mustafa, Head of the Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) Department of Foreign Affairs, speaking on behalf of the KRG, briefed the foreign diplomats about Newroz and Kurdish New Year, and shed light on the rights of the people of Kurdistan to determine their future, the statement read.

Currently, foreign representative offices and consulates of 34 countries are based in the Kurdistan Region, including five countries that have veto power in the United Nations. 

Additionally, the KRG has its representative offices in 12 countries across the globe.
