Jordan King, Kurdistan President discuss bilateral relations

President Barzani visited the wounded Peshmerga fighters receiving treatment in Jordan.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) – The Kurdistan Region President arrived in Jordan on Thursday and met with the Jordanian King to discuss strengthening bilateral relations between the two nations.

According to a statement by the Kurdistan Region Presidency, Masoud Barzani, the Region’s President, arrived in Amman, the capital of Jordan, accepting an official invitation from King Abdullah II to attend the World Economic Forum that will be held at the Dead Sea on May 19.

President Barzani was received by King Abdullah II at the Royal Palace, where the two discussed the political situation in the Region, the latest political development at the regional and international level and the war against terror, the Presidency statement said.

According to a Jordanian media, the meeting focused on “means to boost cooperation between Jordan and the Kurdistan region, mainly in the economic and investment fields.”

President Barzani and King Abdullah also discussed the latest developments in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, and “the need to support efforts to fight and defeat Deash [Arabic acronym for the Islamic State] terrorist group.”

President Barzani reportedly voiced keenness to forge closer cooperation with Jordan in various domains.

In another stage of his visit, President Barzani visited the wounded Peshmerga fighters receiving treatment at al-Hussein Medical Center.
