Masrour Barzani: Our opportunity for unity is now

Erbil, Kurdistan Region (K24) - Chancellor of the Kurdistan Region Security Council, Masrour Barzani  emphasized the importance of unity for all political parties today in an official statement.

Delivered on the occasion of the New Year, Masrour Barzani said, "We begin the New Year while our brave Peshmerga forces are defending Kurdistan—it's land and people. They have made history in fighting against Daesh (the Arabic acronym for the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant), and Peshmerga's victories are not only honored by the people of Kurdistan but also surprised all those that seek freedom throughout the world. These victories are discussed in international meetings." Chancellor Barzani asked the international community to pay more immediate attention to the Peshmerga's military demands, who "fight [IS] on behalf of the entire world,” and called on all political parties and forces of the Kurdistan Region to approach issues and crises with patriotism and national spirit instead of partisan opposition.

"All signs indicate that based on the world's new political necessities, the map of the region is going to be redrawn, [so] we should not lose this opportunity [since] the likelihood of its recurrence is rare," the Chancellor emphasized.
