Syrian Kurdish forces of the People’s Protection Units (YPG) killed three militants from Al-Nusra Front near Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood in Aleppo

ALEPPO, Syria (K24) – On Tuesday, the Syrian Kurdish forces of the People’s Protection Units (YPG) killed three militants from Al-Nusra Front near Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood in Aleppo, military sources told K24.

Last week, Al-Nusra militants launched an offensive on the Kurdish bases in Sheikh Maqsoud, which led to clashes with the YPG fighters. Al-Nusra is the Syrian branch of Al-Qaeda terrorist organization.

The YPG leadership said in a statement published on January 1, "On the night of December 31 in Aleppo, groups of the Al-Nusra and Ahrar Al-Sham terrorists launched a mortar attack on the Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood. Troops from the People’s Defense Units [YPG] who were accompanied by the Women’s Defense Units [YPJ] performed a counter-attack against the very coordinates the mortars came from. According to the latest confirmation from the site, one terrorist was killed."

Redur Khalil, the spokesman of the Kurdish forces of People's Protection Units (YPG), told K24 on Thursday, "Our forces destroyed a military vehicle of the terrorists on Monday at Misbah area north of Aleppo and killed three militants the next day in Sheikh Maqsoud."

The YPG leadership said in another statement published on Wednesday, "On January 4, during the evening hours, the terrorists of al-Nusra launched attacks on Al-Jandul square and Misbah area north of Aleppo. In return, our units launched counter-attacks and destroyed a military vehicle. On January 5, our units responded to a terrorist attack in the Oil Factory area of Sheikh Maqsoud and killed three militants."

Sheikh Maqsoud has been under the control of Kurdish forces since 2012 after clashes with the Syrian regime army.

On December 1 of last year, Syrian regime planes bombed Kurdish neighborhood of Sheikh Maqsoud, killing two civilians and injuring nine civilians.
