FIFA releases nominees for FIFPro team of the year

The final 11 players will be revealed at the Ballon D’Or ceremony on January 11, 2016.

Agencies (K24) — FIFA released its 55-man shortlist for the annual FIFPro team of the year on Thursday. The final 11 players will be revealed at the Ballon D’Or ceremony on January 11, 2016.

The most dominant nation is Spain, with 11 of the 55 shortlisted players born in Spain, while Germany and Brazil are tied with six representatives each. The rest of the nations included have four or less players representing them.

The top three clubs represented are La Liga giants Real Madrid who have 12 players listed, followed by German champions Bayern Munich with 11 players, and Barcelona with 10 players.

The English Premier League, who many argue is the toughest league in Europe and the world, only has a combined 10 representatives from four clubs, and only two of the players are Englishmen—Chelsea’s John Terry and Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney.

The final 55-man shortlist was voted by over 25,000 professional football players from around the globe in nearly 70 different countries.
