WATCH: Kurdish recording artist NOURI releases video for new single

“I am overwhelmed by all the love and support I have received since releasing my debut single.”

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – A Kurdish singer and songwriter, known by her artist name NOURI, released on Tuesday the music video for her new single “Where Do We Go From Here.”

The passionate lyrics – which NOURI wrote – and emotional visuals accompanied with the melody of the instrumentals of “Where Do We Go From Here” already have people comparing NOURI to established artists like Ariana Grande and Rihanna.

“The song and music video are about the struggle of wanting to be with someone you care deeply for but at the same time wanting to let them go because the timing isn’t right,” the Kurdish artist told Kurdistan 24.

“I am overwhelmed by all the love and support I have received since releasing my debut single.”

NOURI was born in a Syrian refugee camp after her family fled the Kurdistan Region in 1991. Her parents were denied entry into bordering Iran and instead went to Syria to seek refuge from the brutalities of the Saddam Hussein regime.

In 1995, after NOURI was born, her family moved to New Zealand which would become their new home.

Although she now lives in Los Angeles in the United States, the Kurdish singer says she wants to return to Kurdistan one day to perform her music for her fans back home.

“I definitely want to be performing in Kurdistan. I’ve received an overwhelming amount of support on Instagram and Facebook from all my Kurdish brothers and sisters back home. I love you all,” she told Kurdistan 24 in an interview in June.

Her dream of becoming a professional music artist took off when she moved to LA and had the opportunity to record a song for a Hollywood film in 2016.

NOURI is currently working on a five to six-track EP with a host of talented producers from all over the US. The self-titled album is expected for release in 2019.
