Kurdistan PM ‘concerned’ about reports of Omicron cases in Duhok

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Thursday expressed his concerns about reports of cases of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus in Duhok.

 “I'm concerned by reports of Omicron cases in Duhok,” Prime Minister Barzani tweeted. “I've instructed the Health Minister to mobilize teams to contain a spread.”

He added that the regional government has taken steps to limit the spread of the virus, and called on the public to adhere to preventative measures and get vaccinated.

“We've also introduced new measures, but you must play your part; stick to the rules, get vaccinated, and protect Kurdistan,” the premier affirmed.

Kurdistan Region Minister of Health Saman Barzani announced on Thursday that five omicron cases had been recorded in the Kurdistan Region. “The newly infected individuals were all unvaccinated against the coronavirus,” Barzanji said.

“They are isolated and their health situation is stable,” he added.

Additionally, the Iraqi Health Ministry announced on Thursday that a number of foreign diplomats have tested positive for the Omicron variant in Baghdad.
