More than 900 Syrian refugees arrive in Kurdistan Region

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – In two days, more than 900 Syrian refugees arrived in Kurdistan Region after leaving northeastern Syria for security and economic reasons.

"In a new wave, 183 new Syrian refugees arrived at Bardarash refugee camp on early Monday," Kurdistan 24 correspondent Ary Hussein reported. "Later in the night, 347 other Syrian refugees arrived in the camp." 

"On Tuesday morning, 350 other Syrian refugees arrived in the same camp," he added.

"We are coming to the Kurdistan Region because of the bad economic situation and the security instability we have been suffering from in Syria," one of the newly-arrived refugees told the Kurdistan 24 correspondent.

In the past, Syrians were leaving their homes and entering the Kurdistan Region primarily because of the conflict in their country. Now they are leaving their homes in increasing numbers because of the unbearable economic situation.

In Syria, they have had to endure rampant unemployment, lack of services, and high food prices.

According to Kurdistan 24 data, the number of Syrian refugees at the Bardarash camp ten days ago was around 3,000. That number has dramatically increased since then with this new wave. 

Bardarash camp, located in the Kurdistan Region's Duhok province, can house 15,000 refugees.
